Two
of Scotland's indelible symbols have to be - castles and whisky. Because
Scotland is also a land that is long on heritage – of clans
and castles and fine malt whiskies. Our member hotels subscribe passionately
to that heritage.
Everyone will tell you that there's something enigmatic about Scotland
that lingers in the soul long after you have left. We are not quite
sure how to explain this, but are pretty certain that whisky and castle
simply have to feature in the memories of many.
Famed throughout the world for its malt whiskies and castles - there
are nearly as many Scotch Whisky distilleries in Scotland as Scottish
Castles. You can easily create a lively discussion by declaring which
is best, preferably over one of the said ‘waters of life’
in one of our superbly well stocked ‘whisky bars’.
Tom at Kildrummy Castle will possibly convince you that the Grampian
Malt Whisky and Castle Trails are unsurpassed possibly anywhere in
the world. And he may be right. But we’d also defer to your
discussions on the subject over a Classic Scotch Malt or two and respectfully
point out that not only are some of our own ‘historic houses’
amongst Scotland’s finest, but also that you must simply not
miss out on a pan-Scotland appreciation of some of the world’s
greatest castles – Balmoral, Edinburgh, Glenurquhart, Stirling,
Glamis Castle and Scone Palace to name but a few – and some
very worthy distilleries with great award winning visitor centres
at Glenturret in Perthshire, Glen Morangie near Inverness, Royal Lochnagar
near Ballater – and a delightful one at Oban – near Cairnbaan
in glorious Argyll.
